This morning I almost talked myself out of yoga, until …
I used this 5-second trick.
My brain started serving up all the usual excuses to skip yoga – "I'm tired," "I'll do it later," "Just 5 more minutes in bed." Then I remembered the 5-Second Rule. I counted backward 5-4-3-2-1, rolled out my mat, and 20 minutes later, I felt absolutely incredible. Don't negotiate with the resistance – countdown and take action.
Happy Weekend!
1. Why 5-4-3-2-1 Works People ask me that all the time. It works because it forces your brain to shift — fast. You’re literally telling your brain to switch gears. Your prefrontal cortex, the part of your brain that helps you make decisions, kicks in. This cuts off the automatic, emotion-driven response from the amygdala—the part that freaks out when fear takes over. That quick countdown gives you just enough time to stop reacting and start taking control. Just count, take action, and move forward. It's that easy.
2. Embrace the Learning Curve Want to know what scared me recently? Sharing my morning routine on social media. Starting with simple coffee photos and daily rituals felt vulnerable – but here's the truth: authenticity resonates more than perfection. Every time I hit "post," I'm connecting with others who are showing up for their lives too. Your story matters, even the simple moments. What will you learn and do this weekend?
3. Energy Reset Take 60 seconds right now to identify one person or activity that consistently drains your energy. Now here's the real talk: you have permission to set boundaries or step away. Your energy is a precious resource – protect it like your bank account.
